Station of the Week: iHeartRadio Celebrates St. Patrick's Day!
It’s that special time of year again — St. Patrick’s Day! And iHeartRadio wants to celebrate the best in Irish music with you!
Both past and present, Irish musicians have had a remarkable presence on the airwaves for much of recent musical history:
In the 80s, there was U2 — the powerful alternative rock quartet that burst out of the Dublin scene to make a lasting impact on both rock and pop music. Charismatic lead vocalist Bono not only became recognized for his signature stage presence and voice, but also his remarkable work in humanitarian aid. And in the 90s there was The Cranberries — known for alternative rock hits like “Zombie” and “Linger,” the group became one of the most important acts of the decade.
The early 2000s saw the folk-influenced sounds of Damien Rice coming to prominence — in 2002 his debut album O reached No. 8 on the UK albums chart, won the Shortlist Music Prize and generated three top-30 singles in the UK. Rice released his second album 9 in 2006, and his songs have appeared in numerous films and television episodes. And today, we have none other than James Vincent McMorrow — best known for the albums Early in the Morning and Post Tropical, McMorrow has rapidly risen in the ranks over the past 5 years, becoming one of the most universally respected artists in folk and alternative today.
