For Your Eyes: Exclusive Interview with FINNEAS
Finneas O’Connell is an especially interesting member of today’s music industry: he’s the brother of Billie Eilish as well as her co-producer and writer, but he’s also a solo artist who writes and produces on his own as FINNEAS. In October of this year, FINNEAS released his first EP, Blood Harmony. iHeartRadio had the pleasure of sitting down with him for a quick chat about his new project, writing and producing music on tour and how he balances his solo work and the work he does with Billie.
Apparently, FINNEAS enjoyed writing and releasing Blood Harmony because many of the songs still felt fresh and relevant to him. He had spent the summer on tour where he wrote and produced these songs from his tour bus.
“The stereotype is that it’s really hard to write and record on tour and I think that’s partially because your surroundings aren’t that different every day, it’s a little bit like Groundhog Day on tour,” explained FINNEAS. “ But writing songs is my favorite thing ever, and since I’m only home a third of the year, I knew I had to figure out how to go on tour and write at the same time. I’ve been much happier since I figured out how to do it.”
FINNEAS also recently contributed his producing prowess to the new Selena Gomez track, “Lose You to Love Me.” He didn’t contribute to the writing of the song, but he did add some extra production that brought a bit more texture to the song.
“I just added a bit of production that made it feel more alive than it did already,” said FINNEAS. “I just felt lucky to be hearing the song before anyone else, and it was really fun to work on, too.”
And when asked about how he balances his solo work with the work he does with his sister Billie Eilish, FINNEAS didn’t seem too stressed.
“We’re always working on new music. We don’t make music because we have to we do it, we do it because we like to,” FINNEAS explained. “It’s been fun to make some new songs that we’re excited for people to hear.”
