Artist of the Week: Trey Songz

Tremaine Aldon Neverson, known to his deep pool of fans as Trey Songz, hails from Petersburg, Virginia. As a child, Trey originally had no aspirations to become a professional recording artist, stating in an interview that “singing wasn't a reality for me, until other people started noticing I sounded good.” Thankfully, his friends and family nudged him along.

His debut album, I Gotta Make It, was released in 2005 through Atlantic Records. His follow-up album, Trey Day, spawned his first top 20 single, "Can't Help But Wait." In 2012, Songz released his first No. 1 album, Chapter V, which debuted atop the Billboard 200. The album's lead single titled "Heart Attack" was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 2013 Grammy Awards. To date, Trey Songz has sold an overall 14 million records worldwide in singles and albums.

And he’s still going strong! Trey Songz dropped his latest album, Tremaine, to both critical and commercial acclaim.

Our host, Ellie Lee, was recently serenaded by Trey as he talked about the new release — particularly, around why his new tracks are so personal and why he had to wait for the right time to drop this latest record. Check out the full interview, below:
