Artists of the Week: Hip-Hop Stars on Why the Genre Rules!

We’re mixing it up with not one, not two, but five artists of the week! To celebrate an entire genre of music that dominates pop culture, we hosted hip-hop masters Jacquees, Ty Dolla $ign, Mike Classic, Meek Mill and DJ Envy to tell us why hip-hop and R&B rules the charts today. It’s safe — and not surprising — to say that these guys had no shortage of reasons for why their genre is on top!

It’s a hard task to pick the very best songs from this collection of stellar artists, but we’ll share a few of our favorites! Jacquees released his hit song “B.E.D” in 2016, which has an entrancing melody and beat that we just love. Ty Dolla $ign’s “Or Nah” pulls you in and diversifies its sound by featuring The Weeknd. “WOOSAH” from up and comer Mike Classic has a unique and smooth sound that is literally music to our ears! “All Eyes on You” featuring Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown is one of Meek Mill’s finest masterpieces. And last, but not least, DJ Envy’s latest single “Text Ur Number” featuring Fetty Wap & DJ Sliink is pretty epic.

We had a great conversation with these musical geniuses and think you’d love to hear what they had to say, too. Check out our interview with them below, and then head over to iHeartRadio to discover your favorite hits on hip-hop based stations like The Beat! And for the next two months, don’t forget that you can hear unlimited beats on demand for just 99 cents — happy listening!
