Artist of the Week: The Weeknd
Ladies and gentlemen, the Weeknd. The Canadian crooner is back with an electrifying new single, “Take My Breath,” making its global debut today. You can hear this breathtaking new track now on iHeartRadio’s Contemporary Hit Radio, Rhythmic Contemporary Hit Radio and Hot Adult Contemporary stations!
The pulsating new jam is The Weeknd’s first single since his 2020 smash hit album, After Hours—and the first song from his highly anticipated upcoming album, which has yet to be named. The track comes equipped with a visually dazzling music video produced by directing duo Cliqua. And while stylistically different from the extensive After Hours era—which featured many music videos (almost like a story) of the Weeknd in various states of disarray—the Weeknd’s creativity is on full display again in the “Take My Breath” music video as he visits a futuristic nightclub and takes breaths from an oxygen tank.
The Weeknd has really found his groove since releasing his 2019 mega-hit “Blinding Lights,” which was one of the most streamed songs of all time. From there, his 80s synthwave inspired After Hours released in 2020 went on to become his most successful record to date, culminating in a legendary halftime performance at Super Bowl LV this year.
In an interview with GQ released earlier this week, The Weeknd said his forthcoming record is “the album [he’s] always wanted to make.” And he went to describe the sound of it as “Quincy Jones meets Giorgio Moroder meets the-best-night-of-your-f***ing-life party records.”
Will “Take My Breath” become The Weeknd’s latest No. 1 song on the Billboard 200? Only time will tell, but you can be among the first to hear the catchy new track for yourself. Tune into iHeartRadio's Contemporary Hit Radio, Rhythmic Contemporary Hit Radio and Hot Adult Contemporary stations to hear “Take My Breath” now!
